winter light

Went for a bit of exploring with Northy today, winter light makes for great contrasts...
We've a busy weekend on the water again, dodging the wind : )

Here's a pic from Sunday morning, 2 weeks ago, when both morning group combination of Improver's and beginners who had completed the Discover Sea Kayaking course, headed round the Calf at max spring tides... The afternoon Intermediate session used the Dragon's Breath overfall to bring out some realistic scenarios, and then use the team to best effect : )
A delightfully challenging day on the water with the Adventure Club.
Over in London last weekend on the Visit Isle of Man stand at the Outdoor Show, good to meet folk with such wide range of interests and experience, and catch up with a few mates in the evenings...
Its going to be a tremendous summer!

Coasteering - UK stag

The first visiting Stag party for 2013 took the Peel Castle route this morning, an invigorating Coasteering session led by Northy and Kim.
Smiles all round on completion, and then back to sample some more Manx culture for the rest of their weekend stay : )
Hope you didn't miss the spectacular sunset lads!

Adventure Club - Sunday paddling

We paddled from Port Erin Beach today, the Improver's group with Sam and Kim heading to the Sound to play. Myself and Jan led the beginners group, on a delightful journey finishing back in the Bay.
Typically the Intermediate session began with some wet skills, then headed for wind against tide and watch out for spills. A break at the Sound for flapjack and drinks, and finish in darkness our aims fulfilled.

A tremendous day among friends and kayakers, an interesting day with learning and practice. A physical day using muscles and stamina, bring on next Sunday for more fun and waves : )
We've had a few adventures out on the water since the New Year, with many more to come, and some you may hear. Whether a glowing daybreak at Peel, with the Cathedral framed in the shot, or surfing the waves at the Calf, i'm loving the lot!

New Year's Day Kayak

We chose Laxey for the Adventure Club sea kayak trip for today, sheltered from the strong Westerly wind.
Plenty of seals about, including some younger ones...
Finishing up with soup and scones at the kiosk on the prom : )

Kayak Surfing on Sunday
Anouk had her new camera along on Sunday, for the Adventure Club kayak session.
Warming up in Port Erin bay before heading to play at Gansey Bay till it grew dark...
Some solid performances and plenty of positive learning experiences!
Looking forward to seeing everyone back on the water this coming Sunday: )

Youth Scholarship - Development and Leadership Program
The Youth Scholarship Team gave the presentation of this summer's Expedition to Vancouver Island, in the lecture room on Friday. Really nice to see their reflections on the program.
We'll be visiting more schools and chatting to yr. 12 students who wish to join the program, from next week.
