2 star canoe skills

Over the last few weeks John, George and Ian have been running a course focusing on 2 star skills using a range of different types of craft including open boats.
A lot of fun and some excellent progression by everyone in the canoes over the last few weeks, combined with the usual sessions in the sea kayaks :)
For the final session we took a journey up the gently flowing Sulby river from Ramsey stopping for a quick snack break of home-made delicacies before returning on the ebbing tide!
Well done to everyone who went onto pass the BCU 2 star award the following Tuesday!
We'll be running another of these courses in the Spring, let us know if you wish to take part :)

bio-luminescence

Wednesday Afternoon Paddle

The Wednesday afternoon sea kayak trip ran from Laxey Beach on the east coast of the Isle of Man...
 ....in benign conditions!
Wild Goats, a Porpoise, stunning scenery and a fun paddle : ) Welcome to the Adventure Club!

Night Paddle from Queens

Last night's evening paddle ran from Douglas Prom, opposite the Queens Hotel.
We headed out round Onchan Head, through the most spectacular bio-luminescence.
Vivid green streaks, showers of sparks, and the incredible wow factor it produced in the group : )
Then back across the bay, to land on the Tower of Refuge, and enjoy some scrumptious treats!
The bay itself produced great colours, the bow wake cutting through liquid gold... this has gone down as one of our most awesome night paddles yet!!! Photo's will never do justice to what the naked eye can see.
A very mild evening, great company and all done an sat down outside the Queens by 9pm : )
See you on the water soon

a Tuesday

Youth TR. 27 Night Paddle

The Youth Scholarship team requested a South venue and Sea Kayaking, for this week's training session..
...so Port St Mary it was, heading out as darkness fell, and working with limited vision...
...plus the addition of biscuits! A relaxed enjoyable Night Paddle.
The team are really progressing well : )

Sam's FMP

I just had time to catch the end of Sam's Fundamental Movement Patterns, on my way to the Pool : )

Discover Sea Kayaking 'Indoor' session 1/4

The next Discover Sea Kayaking 'Indoor' kayak pool course began tonight, with our typical low coach to student ratio's. (next course begins 14th Jan '14)
A lot is gained in a short period of time each week, for four consecutive weeks.
Personal confidence and safety, rescues within a group environment, core and fundamental kayak skills and movements, and learning to roll when the foundations are in place!

Bring on tomorrow!! : )

10 degrees

 Gorge Scrambling - Saturday afternoon

I got back on the midnight ferry from Heysham on Saturday morning, having spend a few days at Kendal Judo Club, and then the National Coasteering Charter meeting in Manchester, followed by a quick trip to north Wales and then head North again...
Suited and booted is quality steamer wetsuits, and fitted buoyancy aids and helmets, we headed up a section of Ballaglas Glen, staying warm and having a lot of fun!!!
Autumn colours, flumes, scrambles and plenty of challenge for those who wanted it : 0
See you all again for your next adventure soon!

Senior Club Night Paddle

I got back to Ballabrooie in time to turn the gear round and head off to Niarbyl to meet the Senior Club for a night paddle.
Stunning evening with lots of bio-luminescence creating 'sparks' streaming off the bow of the kayaks, and illuminating our wakes...
The senior club had already been out earlier on Saturday, with a trip out to Chicken Rock!! Good work lads and I understand some fine navigation too!! Plus another sighting of the Ginger seal : )

Sunday Adventure Club Day Trip

The Adventure Club Sea Kayak Trip - Day Paddle
Setting off from Fenella Beach, Peel on the West coast of the Isle of Man, this morning, we paddled South with the current and mild breeze on our backs...
A great day for a relaxing sea kayak trip down the stunning West coast of the Isle of Man, taking in the bright colours, looking over to the Mourne Mountains, clearly seen and looking quite close...
Making best use of the weather, (always our goal) and enjoying the plentiful supplies of home-made treats which accompany the Adventure Club outings, whether by kayak or foot!! : )
Completing the delightful day with another Lifeguard kayak pool training session at Peel.

As the settled fine weather continues, we have a few more adventures planned this week.
See the Calendar for the mid-week sea kayak trip and evening 'night paddle'.
See you soon!

challenge by choice

A few images from Sunday's sea kayak training session with the Adventure Club.
We headed round Bradda Head, rock hopping in the powerful swell, but otherwise benign conditions, with a little rain to cool us off : )
Enough challenge for all the levels of ability on the water, and options to pass on by and find something more your level... or take the challenge and go for it!!! Some inspiring performances and commitment.
The afternoon Discover Sea Kayaking (plus) group used the increasing sea conditions to progressively challenge themselves in waves and rollers from different directions...
Also working on the fundamentals of control and balance, a really great attitude from everyone!!

As always, looking forward to our next session on the water with you, next week! : )
