Last weekend we had the pleasure of welcoming some journalists to the island to experience some of the activities and locations available for us during the Isle of Man Adventure race, held each year in September.
We vary the locations of the race most years to keep the event fresh and make use of the best weather conditions on the day, thus keeping an element of suprise to the event!
Taking advantage of the sheltered conditions on the south coast, away from the North-westerly breeze we started the sea kayak journey at Port St Mary, paddling the 6km to the Calf Sound.
Completing the Sea Kayak journey against the backdrop of the stunning Calf of Man...
Taking a short break at the Sound we enjoyed a scrumptious picnic lunch provided by the Patchwork cafe
Before regretting eating that extra piece of cake as we hit the first hill out of the Sound on the bikes!
Working our way through the country lanes to the excellent mountain bike trails at Cringle and South Barrule plantations.
Then onto the hill run section over the tops, then dropping into Glen Maye for the mystery challenge....
Which on this occasion involved getting a little wet!
A refreshing way to end the day, before back to Ballabrooie for the presentations of our rarely awarded "Certificates of Adventurousness"!
Well done everyone, it was great to give you a flavour of the race and show you some our stunning scenery...
The race itself takes place on Saturday September 20th this year and is open to individuals, pairs and teams of 4.
Enter online here. Spaces are limited and it is always a great event!
