Coastal Exploration

Deloitte's Team Building afternoon headed to Peel by coach for some Coastal Exploration, with the emphasis on learning more about the intertidal zone, and the rock pool species along the way...
As luck would have it, we also scrambled along the barnacled rocks, swam through rock gardens and explored the odd cave as well : )
George, Kim and I had a brilliant time with the the team, who were really up for challenging themselves.
A nice touch finishing with food and beverages at the Creek after : )
See you all again soon!

Hills and Night Navigation

I headed up to North Barrule from the Black Hut on the TT Course with Keri & Steve yesterday.
Absolutely stunning! A little chilly on the ears on the hilltops..
Snowcapped mountains in the distance, Scafell Pike to the East looked pretty white, and more white stuff on Snowdonia further South, the sea a perfect calm to the North and we could see the route from the Point of Ayre to the Isle of Whithorn we paddle from time to time...
Heading back the way we came, Snaefell and the ridge walk between.
A great place to spot white hares, and for crisp walks when its snowed a bit : )
Back to Ballabrooie in time to prepare for the night paddle George had arranged, and drive the truck and trailer via Douglas prom to collect the lads, and then down to Laxey Beach to kit up and set off.
Not as cold as we imagined, and the paddle was awesome!
We practiced timing, stroke rates and map reading along the way, the Intermediate paddles making light work of the actual journey.
Arriving at Douglas beach opposite the Queens Hotel, to pack up make it home for 10:30...
Yet anther terrific day on the Isle of Man!! : )
I do love the winter.

Scotland - land of rainbows

We had an action packed trip away on the West coast of Scotland last week, myself George & Becca, spending some time at the Falls of Lora and a few other dynamic locations as well : )
Carol engaging the rainbow : )
Great day on the Saturday with Leonie, Carol and Howard at Cuen and around Torsa.
Really good to catch up with paddling friends, and also getting a positive result on my coaching.
George and Becca - my long (suffering) term students, warming up as the ebb flow built, on Sunday.
George performed some delightful manoeuvres with the single blade, and Becca was on the best form i've seen her since beginning with us on the Youth Scholarship Program!

Thanks to everyone involved in my journey to Level 5 Sea Coach, and I look forward to many more fun and exciting experiences, on and off the water!!

ps. A few pics from September, when me George and Becca met up with Mike, Ashley and Caoimhe for some paddling in the Sound of Luing.
Scotland provided a multitude of delightful venues, including the Grey Dogs at spring tides against a Westerlie... and still managed to make it look calm! : )
Here's to more such times, and adventures with friends.

Wild Goats at Laxey

Sunday's paddles from Laxey enjoyed calm conditions and plenty of sunshine!
The morning session of Discover Sea Kayaking and the Adventure Club Improver's both headed North, spotting Wild Goats and the magnificent scenery. A couple of Peregrine Falcons overhead too.
Time for a quick snack over lunch, and back on the water again.
The afternoon groups were a beginners Sea Kayak Trip and the Adventure Club Intermediates.
The beginners trip again headed North, past a fair few wild goats, and found an especially sheltered bay to stop for Katia's flapjack and to hand round the flask of hot blackcurrent juice. The Intermediate session headed North round Maughold Head, and finished beneath the Queens Pier on Ramsey Beach.
 Quite a day! : )

Sarah - member of the month

Congratulations to Sarah Partington for achieving Member of the Month for October.
Regularly out on our Sunday Adventure Club sessions, Sarah has shown commitment and progression, also using the indoor pool courses to develop her Eskimo roll.
We've been lucky again with the weather, delivering some fun experiences and coaching around the stunning Isle of Man coastline, and superb tide races and overfalls.
The Discover Sea Kayaking 'B' courses are running smoothly, next one with places available at present begins 08th January 2013. Sign up through the website Calendar.
Catch you soon

a real adventure!

Yesterday's late afternoon Corporate Coasteering was a real adventure!
Using an exceptionally stunning route, sheltered from the Westerly wind, and many forms of team and personal challenge along the journey.
Some great swell periodically, a mind blowing backdrop, and exquisite sunset to top it off! Coasteering can be designed around the level or real challenge desired, and abilities within the team.
Back to the minibus in the dark, well done to the team from DQ and their special guests Boston for the occasion, a truly unforgettable adventurous experience : )
The overwhelming sense of achievement was the main theme over hot Port's at the Garrison...
