Youth Scholarship Expedition to Vancouver Island - part 2
A few pics from our Youth Scholarship - development and leadership program, expedition to Vancouver Island. Our adventures in Strathcona Park, with immense weather, up to 32 degrees and the main theme was have you reapplied suncream!! : )
Each member of the team led a day, including navigation, which could be tricky in parts...
In other parts the steepness of the ascent and decent were challenging, especially when combined with bush-whacking to find the route...
...a few great surprises including grouse and in the alpine region a few white-tailed ptarmigan...
...finally summiting Mount Tom Taylor was an absolute pleasure...
really glad we made you all take your warm gear, it was roasting!!!
Heading back down was especially joyful, particularly if you had a fear of heights....
Then it was back to full rucksacks as we changed camp each night, and beginning with some more used trails....
with stunning views over the turquoise depths of Cream Lake....
...plentiful wildlife, prolific humming birds zooming around...
And progressing to more demanding routes off down to Price Creek, and then along back towards civilisation, very slowly and often undulating!!! : )
The rewards ... an immense feeling of personal accomplishment and teamwork.
Back on Buttle Lake, taking in the views where the existing lake was turned into a dam ....
...time for a little sunbathing...
...early morning wildlife sightings, and...
PHOTO opportunities!
Well done team, we are really impressed.
