Basking Shark Fishing...

I crashed a Guided Kayak Fishing trip on Saturday morning with Kelvin from Kelvin's Tackle...
...plenty of Pollock being caught (and released) and then a large black dorsal fin surfaced out front and headed straight for us...
...if you''ve never seen a Basking Shark before, then when one swims beneath your kayak, and remains there for nearly a minute, just feeding...
...before moving off in search of more nutritious food, its quite awe inspiring! : )

Junior Paddlesport

The afternoon was the opportunity for the first session on the sea for those who have been completing the skill stages in our Junior Paddlesport program.
I know many of these folk are very excited about the Youth Development Week's we are running this July and August as well : )
Stunning weather and perfect conditions for their introduction to Sea Kayaking!
The lads session followed the girls session, later in the afternoon, progressing their skills from the pool into the sea environment, and full sized sea kayaks!!

Great to see the Adventure Club out utilising the conditions to do some mileage : )
See you on the water soon : ))

Adventure club expedition to the Outer Hebrides

This year the Adventure Club has a number of trips running, of which last weeks expedition to the Outer Hebrides, led by George being for the most experienced group.
The group returned at the weekend having successfully completed all objectives!
Paddling over 150km over 5 days!
The group set off from Castle Bay on the Island of Barra and headed south...
As the group rounded Bernaray also known as Barra Head, the Atlantic Swell arrived and for the next day we paddled north up the West coast, reaching the Sound of Harris and to the more sheltered waters of the east.

Arriving back in Castle Bay on day 4, giving an extra day to explore the islands around the coast of Barra.
"Well done team, personally I believe you all excelled yourselves and I'm looking forward to more adventures with you to come" George

We'll be running more trips like this next year..

Paddling from Peel

We've run a number of sea kayak trips in the last few days from Peel, making use of the shelter from the South easterly breeze...
More visitors over for the TT out on the water.
As well as a few local's giving it a go for the first time!
Also time to squeeze in some Coasteering on Saturday
before the Adventure Club Sunday session which involved a short trip and plenty of wet skills! The sea is noticeably getting warmer now...
Well done Martha on your re-entry & roll!
Looking forward to more of the sunshine continuing next week!

Heard from George to say the team completed their mission and had a great time in the Outer Hebrides, some photo's to follow soon!  Keirron has also spent the last few days coaching in Finland.

Catch you soon

Kayaking with Basking sharks...

...is always a special experience!
and great to see people in the group seeing these mighty creatures for the first time.
Our visitors over for the TT races took some time to go paddling from Port Erin yesterday with John & Kim on one of our sea kayak trips and the wildlife certainly didn't disappoint!
We paddled south towards the Calf of Man, on the way back as we were watching the Gannets diving, in itself an incredible sight, and then Chris spotted a fin!
This was soon followed by another fin observation and we soon found two shark's feeding on the plankton blooms and happily swimming round the group!
A truly unforgettable Adventurous Experience!
