Youth Scholarship - South TR 2.

Meeting up straight after school, we split into two training teams, the first headed up by John and Tony, took to the hills for some land based exercises..

...the second lead by George and Keirron kitted up for Coasteering at the beach and then used the 1km run to the getting in point as a warmup for what was to be a demanding session...

Yet again the students have shown determination and a positive mental attitude. Combined with group awareness, this has allowed us to expand the parameters at an early stage in the program.

Simulations of getting your 'injured' team mate down off the hills concluded the land based group's training. The coasteering team completed shortly after them and returned to the beach for hot blackcurrent and cakes!

The enthusiasm and committment is obvious with each and every one of you.
Its a real pleasure training with you.

Sea Kayak - Feb Training

Sunday morning sea kayak training session - 'Warmup on Port Erin Beach'
The Discover group used the sheltered inner bay to practice manoeuvring and experiment with balence and control. Conditions further out were ideal for small groups of the Improver's and Improver plus students, to venture in on small forays, then returning to the shelter before pushing out further the next trip.
Chris Allix is continuing his training, in and out the kayaks working steadily towards his long term goal of paddling from the Isle of Man to Monaco.

Intermediate sea kayak training in the afternoon kicked off with wet skills practice, working through each possible scenario, then progressed to rough water landings.

We then used the swell moving through the sea arches and caves to swim through and practice working with the moving water, in full kit.

The session culminated in the bay with extended rolling practice, and Lauren joining us as her last paddle with the Adventure Club before she leaves the Island for Manchester next weekend. Some superb rolls Lol, we'll check out the social elements of your time with us on Saturday...
We'll see everyone else next week!

Corporate Coasteering in February

A pleasantly active finale to a day in early February.

Saturday began with a coaching session at 9am, paddling South from Peel, Fenella Beach, past small groups of Black Guillemots (unusual at this time of year) and then many hundreds of Common Guillemots swarming off the sea cliffs and filling the area with flashes of black and white, as the residual swell provided a background rumble through the nearby caves and arches.

The arrival of the Guillemots (part of the Auk family) heralds the beginning of the busy bird and marine-life 'visitor' season on the stunning Isle of Man coastline, including Razorbills, Puffins and Basking Sharks. Very exciting!!

With the senses tuely awakened and feeling alive, next was staff 'personal performance' training.
Some pleasing results here and we'll be transfering those skills onto the next session.

A couple of lads (regular visitors to the Island with their families) had requested a Coasteering session

and I was more than happy to oblige : )
Maybe we'll try sea kayaking for your next unforgettable adventurous experience.

A change in the wind and weather will mean a challenging day on the water for the Adventure Club sunday training sessions. It's when conditions change that coaching skills really become apparent. The ability to deliver a safe - fun - learning experience to suit the needs of the students, year round.
Every day is a new day!

Youth Scholarship - North TR 1.

Students from the North Youth Scholarship Training group had their inaugral training session this afternoon, in sunshine and calm (sea conditions) : )
It was a really fun event, with plenty of learning involved, and lots of laughter!

This group is formed of students from Queen Elizabeth II, Ballakermeen and Ramsey High Schools, and worked well in the teams they formed.

I can't wait for the combined training session over Half Term!
Well done everyone and look forward to seeing you all for next week's session on the sea.

Kim's Coasteering Bday Party

To celebrate his 16th birthday, Kim wanted an exciting coasteering session for his mates.
We delivered just that, on Sunday...

Having been promoting the Isle of Man at Destinations show at London Earls Court till Saturday evening, Sunday was a busy Day!
The lads loved the adrenaline pumping coasteering session, along the rocky coastline, into caves with a reasonable swell running, making interesting noises and conditions at some locations : )

The morning was a sea kayak training session off Peel for the Adventure Club - Improvers. We headed South, playing around the rocks with the swell making skills sharpen nicely. Then returned to the Bay and Harbour as the winds increased. Perfect timing as conditions changed dramatically over the next 30 minutes.

Following the Coasteering session, we neaded to the River with the Adventure Club - Intermediates and soon all sorts of swimming and rolling commenced!
Its impressive how fast miving water skills are coming along, and hip control and low recoveries are effective.
Well done everyone!!
A quick pick from the Staff - Black Tie do

Look forward to seeing you all next week!
